Dorestela Medina
Senior Regional Director, Latin America and the Caribbean
Dorestela Medina supports and oversees national ministries in Latin America and the Caribbean with a wealth of knowledge about the region’s cultural, societal, economic, political and prison context. She diligently coaches national ministries to build their capacity in order to achieve their goals and supports Prison Fellowship International program partners.
Dorestela embodies Prison Fellowship International’s values as she works to break the cycle of crime and transform the lives of prisoners and their families through the affiliates in her region. By encouraging and coaching leaders, Dorestela impacts future societal reintegration of those in prison and their families with life-transforming programs.
Dorestela brings extensive experience working in embassies, non-governmental organizations and international missions, including Save The Children Sweden, Oxfam GB, CARE International, Central American Integration System and the United Nations. She has also been a prison volunteer for multiple decades, giving her solid in-prison program leadership, coaching, training and implementation experience.
Dorestela holds a bachelor’s degree in Educational Science and History and has a master’s degree in business coaching. She has completed postgraduate studies about human rights, penitentiary science, assertive communication and restorative justice. Dorestela is a Certified Coach through the International Coaching Community. She resides in Managua, Nicaragua and enjoys dancing, reading, gardening and spending time with her family and dogs.
