David Van Patten
Chief Operating Officer
David “Dave” Van Patten is responsible for developing the global strategy and overseeing all aspects of Prison Fellowship International’s operations. He leads the Senior Management Team and drives annual planning, performance management and strategic partnerships.
Prison Fellowship International is a high-impact, global ministry with a market reach to over two-thirds of the world’s prisoners. Dave recognizes this incredible opportunity and is energized by the pivotal role that he has in shaping and leading Prison Fellowship International’s global strategy.
Dave began his career as a decorated United States Coast Guard officer. Following military service, Dave pioneered an award-winning nonprofit before serving as the National Director for Prison Fellowship Ministries. In 1990, Dave founded Dare Mighty Things, a consulting firm that partnered with venture philanthropists, nonprofits and government agencies in launching large-scale social ventures.
Dave graduated from the United States Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He holds a Master of Public Policy and Business and an Owner/President Management degree from Harvard. Dave lives in South Carolina with his wife, Dana, with whom he has five adult children.
