More than 1 million prisoners in Middle East and North Africa are locked away and forgotten. See how Prison Fellowship International is serving them prisoners, ex-prisoners, their families, and victims of crime through national ministries in the Middle East and North Africa.
The region, known for its cultural and geopolitical complexity, presents both tremendous challenges and opportunities for prison ministry and reform. The concepts of honor and shame are woven tightly into the fabric of Islamic culture and society. As a result, prisoners and their families are left on the fringes of their communities, often ostracized and without hope.
National ministry teams within the Middle East and North Africa region are developing both short-term and long-term strategies to serve these marginalized groups. Their work with prisoners has earned them allies from other faith backgrounds as well as global recognition.
Our Regional Directors have a front-row seat to the transformational impact your support makes possible in prisons in their region.
The Middle East and North Africa region is one of the most unique in the world. Our staff and volunteers in these countries face challenges unlike anywhere else, and yet they are incredibly resilient and committed to transforming the lives of prisoners and their children. Restorative justice is incredibly important in this region. Getting people to work together for the betterment of the most marginalized and creating more harmony between the Christian and Muslim communities has been one of our foremost focuses; and it’s working.
