Prison Project Philip
Prison Project Philip is a Bible study program that trains local church members in evangelism and discipleship. Project Philip is inspired by the story of Philip and the Ethiopian in Acts 8. Philip asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” The Ethiopian responded: “How can I understand? I need someone to explain it to me.”
Prison Project Philip trains leaders who invite others to study the Gospel of John. As part of Prison Project Philip, each participant receives a Bible for personal use and is encouraged to become part of a local church.
Prison Project Philip uses two kinds of Bible study: evangelistic and discipleship. All studies are available for the languages and cultures of the regions of Bible League International partnerships.

- The Gospel of John—An evangelistic study that introduces the one, true God, and clearly shows our need for salvation through Jesus Christ.
- Reaching Toward the Goal—Follow-up discipleship study teaching the importance of Bible reading, prayer, a life of holiness, sharing new faith, and becoming part of a local church.
Public Reading of Scripture
The public reading of Scripture is a spiritual practice in which a group listens to Scripture being read aloud. All you have to do is meet at your chosen location and listen to Scripture while reading along in your print copy.
Gatherings generally have three things in common:
- Communal: Listen with the same 4-20 people each time to develop relationships
- Regular: Meet at least once a week for 20 minutes or more to establish a rhythm
- Extended: Read whole chapters or books at a time to understand verses in context
Reading the whole Bible only takes about 80-100 hours. There are 66 books, and you can read 23 of them in less than 20 minutes each.
You can use a reading plan to guide you through different books of the Bible. Each gathering usually starts and ends with a prayer from Psalms. In between, you can hear God speak from both the Old Testament and the New Testament.
