Unexplainable Gratitude | Uruguay
When someone commits a crime, they often overlook the deeper harm it causes to others. Focus tends to be placed on immediate consequences, yet rarely upon the ripple effect their choices create in families and communities around them. Sycamore Tree Project: Justice and Peace helps participants step into that understanding by creating space for reflection, accountability and restoration. Through this journey, many discover that true healing begins when they face the impact of their actions and choose a new path forward. Rossana’s testimony shares one of those powerful moments of transformation.
“Before this course, I was simply letting time in prison pass, trying not to get into trouble. I initially joined Sycamore Tree Project because I was told it would reflect well to the authorities and be seen positively. However, through the program, I began to understand the true reasons behind it, as it led me to reflect deeply on forgiveness, responsibility and many other aspects of my life.
Today, I want to leave and face a new life, hand-in-hand with my husband and with a renewed way of thinking. One thing that stands out to me — that I cannot fully explain and only feel grateful for — is how people like the program facilitators take time and effort to accompany us, support us and show us care and compassion. Even if I don’t fully understand it, I truly appreciate it.”
