HIM | Cambodia

Him grew up in a home marked by violence, financial hardship and broken relationships. His father’s incarceration in 2010 only deepened the struggle, forcing his older sister to leave school and work in another country to support the family. Withdrawn and uninterested in school, Him battled emotional wounds, health issues and a lack of connection with others.
In 2015, a local pastor saw his struggles and connected him with Prison Fellowship Cambodia. Enrolled in The Child’s Journey, Him received essentials like food, school supplies and medical care, but more importantly, he found hope. With the guidance of his caseworker, Ms. Sopheap, he focused on his education, earning strong grades and excelling in mathematics and sports. As he and his family began attending church and studying the Bible, he discovered a sense of purpose that had once seemed impossible. “I want to extend my sincere gratitude and say goodbye to my amazing sponsor and staff who have always been by my side and supported me to finish high school,” he said. “I am studying at the university, majoring in law. They helped me to see that I had wonderful potential and now I can show it to others.”
Him dreams of becoming a lawyer, using his knowledge to serve his family and community. His journey is a testament to the power of faith, love and generosity. “My wish and hope are that this this program would continue indefinitely to assist other children who are unable to access education and know God,” he said.
His story is a reflection of God’s work through The Child’s Journey, removing fear and replacing it with courage. Where there was once hopelessness, now there is light.
Give today to help more children like Him find a brighter future beyond the cycle of crime.
