You helped give life-changing care to 1,211 children of

prisoners in India in 2018!

More than 240 children across five states were added to

Prison Fellowship India’s program this year

Prison Fellowship India exceeded nearly all of their program-wide goals in 2018, and were met with even more children to love due to the  increase in child registrations at the end of the year. After the country’s great flood, the southern states are still slowly recovering, however Prison Fellowship India and the children’s program teams are actively participating in the rescue and rebuild operations. The country’s limitations in church engagement requires the team to focus on spiritual care during home visits and special events.

Our Rescue Plan In Action

With your help, we pair each child in our program with a dedicated caseworker,

and ensure they receive support in these four essential areas. Here’s how you helped this year:

  • 98% of children in the program now have birth certificates or national ID equivalent (ongoing goal)
  • 100% of children were placed with an approved caregiver
  • 840 children and 690 caregivers attended a special safety training

  • 965 of children in the program are now fully vaccinated (ongoing goal)
  • 910 children, who were in need, received de-worming treatment for parasites, as well as dental treatment
  • 965 children and families, who were especially needy, received additional monthly nutritional support
  • 840 children received health trainings about the importance of hand washing, caring for one’s body and other critical health information

  • 946 of school-age children were registered in school (ongoing goal)
  • 100% of school-age children received additional school support through uniforms, books, and other supplies
  • 100% of children in the program are progressing through grade levels, despite a 6.5% national drop out rate for school-age children

Spiritual Care

  • In every home visit, children and families receive individual counseling and training of the families; for those who need special support, the Mumbai counseling center is being utilized
  • 100% were served by a caring Christian caseworker
  • 935 children attended a resiliency building event
  • 887 children were supported in maintaining contact with their parent in prison through visits, phone calls, and letters
