Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS CHILD SPONSORSHIP?

Child Sponsorship through Prison Fellowship International is when an individual or family donates a regular sum of money to support the growth and development of a child overseas, who has a parent in prison. Sponsors are encouraged to write to their child, and will receive replies and updates on their child’d progress and participation in program activities.

WILL I HEAR FROM MY SPONSORED CHILD?

Absolutely! You can look forward to receiving a response letters from your child. The child’s caseworker worker will help if the child is too young to know how to write. If the letter is not in English, we will enclose a translation.

HOW LONG WILL MY SPONSORSHIP LAST?

Prison Fellowship International sponsors are not required to sponsor a child for any set length of time. Your constant support and love are essential to your sponsored child’s growth and development. Because the child’s needs continue after their parent is released from prison, we ask that sponsors continue their support so we can help the family adjust and decide, along with their caseworker, when the time is right to leave the program.

HOW MUCH OF MY DONATION WILL MY SPONSORED CHILD RECEIVE?

Prison Fellowship International program staff in your child’s country evaluate your child’s needs and determine how to use your gifts to support his or her family in the most effective and appropriate ways. A dedicated Christian caseworker will ensure your child receives or has access to safe shelter, nutritious food, medical care, and education, and opportunities to participate in events and activities that increase self-esteem, build hope, and improve interpersonal relationships. You will receive updates on your children’s progress to learn how your gifts support your sponsored child. Prison Fellowship International diligently strives to adhere to acceptable financial and fundraising practices, and is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), an accreditation organization dedicated to helping Christian ministries earn the public’s trust through adherence to stewardship best practices related to board governance, financial transparency, integrity in fundraising, and proper use of charity resources. Prison Fellowship International also proudly holds a GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN NO LONGER SPONSOR MY CHILD?

If you stop your sponsorship, we will make it a priority to match your child with a new sponsor. Although the child will remain in our program, he or she may receive fewer benefits until a new sponsor is found.
