From Drug Kingpin to Preacher
After he was convicted of drug-smuggling, Norwin Meneses plotted to assassinate the chief prison warder, but then something changed. Click below to read of his dramatic transformation and learn about PFI's newest DVD that features his story.
When Norwin Meneses, a known drug kingpin, was arrested and convicted of drug-smuggling he was placed in solitary confinement—a small cell with no window and no contact with others. Bitter and resentful, he plotted to assassinate the chief warder of the prison. But his heart was changed after he was permitted to attend a Prison Fellowship Nicaragua worship service. Hearing the testimonies deeply moved him and after reading the Bible he received, he experienced God’s grace and changed course. Norwin developed his faith and became a model prisoner. As a result, he was moved out of solitary confinement to the main prison population, where he began coordinating many of the church-related events for the prison. Eventually this once feared prisoner was given access to the entire prison, where he moved about preaching the word of God. Norwin is out of prison now, but continues to visit every day as a volunteer for PF Nicaragua.
Norwin’s amazing story is just one of many on a new DVD produced by Exposure International for PFI called Stories of Love and Justice. This DVD features eight different films with inspirational stories from Russia, Malawi, Fiji, Nicaragua, Benin, Cambodia, Bolivia and Belize. In these stories, prisoners, ex-prisoners, their families and volunteers show how Jesus Christ’s love brings true redemption and healing. Their relationship with God is not only transforming their own lives, but entire communities are experiencing profound changes. The stories speak to the heart of Prison Fellowship’s work throughout the world.
Stories of Love and Justice is the third in a series of PFI DVDs. The previous DVDs are: Stories of Mercy, featuring stories from , twelve countries in which prisoners and ex-prisoners bear witness to God’s mercy; and Stories of Hope, featuring stories from Costa Rica, Northern Ireland and Kenya, in which prisoners, ex-prisoners and volunteers share living examples of how hope in Jesus Christ has given a future to those who thought they had none. The Stories of Hope video was named Best Short Documentary at the Sabaoth International Film Festival in Milan, Italy, last year and the Rwanda segment from the Stories of Mercy video was selected to be shown at the Damah Film Festival in the United States.
Each of these moving DVDs about Prison Fellowship’s work around the world are available via PFI’s Washington Secretariat. To order a DVD, email info@pfi.org or visit the PFI website for more information at www.pfi.org.
